  • Folic Acid, a member of the family of B vitamins, is essential for the metabolism of amino acids, (the building blocks of protein) and for the formation of healthy red blood cells.

    Folic Acid and DHA are two important nutrients for overall health. Folic Acid, a member of the family of B vitamins, is essential for the metabolism of amino acids, (the building blocks of protein) and for the formation of healthy red blood cells. Folic Acid also plays a critical role in nervous system health through the life cycle.1

    DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid found in cold-water oily fish and marine algae that promotes healthy brain and eye development and function. In addition, DHA has been studied and found to support a healthy heart.2

    Nature Made® Folic Acid with DHA also includes Vitamin B12, which works closely with Folic Acid to maintain healthy homocysteine levels for cardiovascular health.3

  • Folic Acid with DHA should be avoided when taking:

    • Current research does not indicate that this supplement should be avoided when taking prescription drugs

    Folic Acid with DHA should be used with caution when combined with:

    • Blood thinning medication (i.e. Warfarin, Coumadin)

    Combining certain prescription drugs and dietary supplements can lead to undesirable effects such as:

    • Diminished drug effectiveness
    • Reduced supplement effectiveness
    • Impaired drug and/or supplement absorption

    Given that no two cases are alike, all patients should be aware of the potential drug-nutrient interactions that may exist and are encouraged to follow up with their primary health care professional.

  • Suggested Use: Take one softgel daily, with a meal.

  • If one is taking a Multiple Vitamin that contains folic acid is it still safe to take a B complex that contains folic acid?

    It should be fine to take both as long as the total amount of folic acid in both supplements does not exceed 1,000 mcg. Also, taking a higher dose may mask a vitamin B-12 deficiency.

    Is it better to take Niacin by itself or with other B vitamins?

    Since the B vitamins are involved in similar bodily functions and sometimes depend on the presence of other B vitamins, it may be beneficial for the body to get the vitamins through a complex supplement instead of individually. However, there may be times when a doctor or other health care professional suggests taking one B vitamin for a specific reason.
